Jesus often ended His
preaching with the words, “If any man
have ears to hear, let him hear.” Hearing involves more than listening to
words. Hearing searches the truth; wins the heart; and manifests itself in the
flesh. Jesus’ message of the kingdom of God was delivered to everyone.
Multitudes listened to Jesus preach, but not everyone heard the message. In the
thousands of years since; nothing has changed.
There’s more to
quoting the scripture than reading, listening and reciting. It is from the
abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. That abundance is built upon
hearing, having faith in what is heard and testing the truth of what is
received.
“And
he
(Jesus) said unto them, Take heed what ye
hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that
hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that
hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath…And with many such
parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.”
What do you hear?
